Hmong Student Association of Carolina (HSAC)
HSAC was founded in 2001 with a focus strive to promote and educate the community about Hmong culture welcoming Hmong and non-Hmong students along with community members to join each year for socio-cultural events, exhibits, and community service. As the first Hmong collegiate student organization in North Carolina, HSAC also aims to promote higher education among young Hmong people through our activities such as the Spring Tour and Scholarship.

HSAC Scholarship
Our mission is to provide Hmong students with the opportunity to promote higher education to minorities and embrace their culture by educating the community about our people through service. Hmong Student Association of Carolina has created a scholarship fund to give a Hmong-American student the opportunity of furthering their education at a North Carolina institute for higher education. More information can be found on the HSAC website.
If you are interested in our scholarship fund or would like to donate to our cause, do not hesitate to reach out to us at unchmong@gmail.com.
HSAC Spring Tour
The annual Carolina Spring Tour is one of our major events of the spring semester as one of largest educational outreach events. The Spring Tour has been hosted each year since the formation of the organization in 2001. Our goal is to preserve its foundation to encourage more Hmong youth to pursue higher education. Below are some of our highlights of our spring tour from years in the past.
Yu Yeng
"Yu Yeng" is HSAC's traditional dance group led by HSAC students. We have performed in past UNC events such as Journey into Asia and VietNite. Chialy Xiong, the current Co President, has brought Hmong dancing back to UNC in 2023 after a long break of not having a Hmong dance group. She has continued to lead "Yu Yeng" through 2024 and 2025 by helping teach fellow peers how to dance as well as carefully articulating the dance and performance. Often, dancers have little to no experience Hmong dancing but this dance group creates a welcoming environment for both Hmong and non-Hmong students to explore traditional dance. Chialy Xiong hopes to pass this position on to fellow HSAC member as she plans for graduation next year to allow Yu Yeng to continue on for more years.
